BAP-PC with update 3.1 now available
The latest update provides useful enhancements for today’s warfarin clinics. It includes improved backup facility, additional data entry fields for recording details of external quality assessment schemes and also offers additional audit statistics in line with the latest NPSA guidelines.
Background
Written by The Department of Primary Care Clinical Sciences at The University of Birmingham, BAP-PC has been used for facilitating anticoagulant dose adjustment in primary care for over 12 years.
At the heart of the software is a validated published equation for calculating warfarin dosage. The calculation, which is based upon the patient’s current INR, target INR and previous dose, has been consistently proven to increase the amount of time patients spend within therapeutic range.
Version 3 was designed to facilitate the recording of quality control checks performed on point of care devices and to perform a variety of useful audits upon the whole population. The software is capable of identifying poorly performing patients who may need closer monitoring which in turn can improve the overall performance of a clinic. Many of the audits may be output as reports in the form of a number of common file formats useful for printing or emailing.
Version 3.1
The latest update, Version 3.1 improves several features:
Backup / Restore: The backup/restore facilities within the administration section of the software now enables data to be backed up or restored from any media connected to the user’s computer. This overcomes the issue some users experienced after upgrading hardware, previously creation of backups was limited to floppy disk.
External Quality Assessment (EQA): Additional fields are now included on the EQC form. Version 3.1 enables all NEQAS sample results, deviation and consensus values to be recorded.
Audit: When performing an audit for a specified period on the entire disease register; additional audits are output under the monitoring heading.
As specified in the most recent NPSA guidelines figures on number of INR values recorded over 8, over 5, under 1.5 and under 1 is output.
BAP-PC V3 must be installed, database connections established and a valid licence code entered before updating to Version 3.1. The process is simple and brief, written instructions are available online and telephone support is also available.

Cost
BAP-PC is now available at the low price of £125 (excluding VAT). This provides 100 ‘active’ patient licence, 12 months user support and free Version 3.1 upgrade. Extra patient licences cost £50 (excluding VAT) per 50 patients and may be added at any time. Ongoing user support fees are priced £50 (excluding VAT) and entitle users to telephone support and free updates as they become available.
